For Sale: 1973 Datsun 240Z in Torrance, California for sale in Torrance, CA

1 of 39
Vehicle Description 1973 Datsun 204Z.
Car was manufactured in November 1972 and original owner took possession in June 1973.
The original bill of sale is included (see the picture of a yellow carbon copy, showing a final selling price of $7113.
Whats more interesting, and perhaps unusual was that the car was delivered by the dealer, Dot Datsun in Huntington Beach, with $2585 worth of dealer installed options (remember this is 1973) including BRE suspension, under coat, German blaupunkt brand radio, center arm rest, front spoiler, rear spoiler, AC, driving lights, Shelby wheels, shade kit, sprint exhaust, and a flannel car cover.
So the spoilers you see in the pictures are original to the car as received by the dealer in 1973.
dealer add-ons from day-1.
The driving lights, rear shade kit and the flannel car cover are no longer included.
The other thing the original owner did was to create a new aluminum oversize radiator that's clearly available in the pictures.
This car has been in Southern California its entire life! THe car was on the road between 6/72 and 1992 when it was stored, on blocks, in a garage in Inglewood, with 39k miles.
It remained on blocks for 20 years until the original owner passed away.
His widow, took the car out of storage and began to bring it back to life in 2012/2013.
At that time, her 10 year old daughter wanted to have the car when she turned 16 and her mother agreed and they jointly began bringing the car back.
They decided to keep the car the original silver color but as the daughter lover red Ferrari's, they made the decision to change the color from the original black to Ferrari red.
The original blue personal plates from 1973 are included and say SIR Z and as a tribute to their husband/father, they had the SIR Z inscribed on the headrests.
ALl the panels on the car are original.
The engine is the original original.
I've included a picture of the paint estimate - you can see the cost was $4400 but more importantly, the mileage in 2012 was 39,911.
There are B&W picture of the car in prep so you can see.
The paint on this car is now 11-12 years old and in those 11-12 years since, this car has only moved 120 miles.
And if you think about it, this car has only moved a couple of hundred miles since 1992 (32 years ago when stored).
So these miles are original.
I would call this car a very very nice driver quality car, a 5-footer.
The paint is shiny and glossy, small nits here and there but if its not visible after 12 years, you can pretty much rest assured its not going to appear.
The widow added a newer radio up front and subwoofer (for her daughter) in the back but we still have the original Blaupunkt radio.
The wheels on the car were the original wheels from 1973, they were refinished and rechromed about 10 years ago.
The tires are new (2013 new) and do not show evidence of rot or crackingbut are 10
years old.
They hold air fine with no leakage that I've seen in the last year.
Over the years, the widow fixed everything, not terribly surprising for a 50 year old car, even with just 40k miles.
I had it all checked and redone in November 2022.
How did I get the car, well, the Widow in my significant other and she decided to offer the car in an auction.
She set a reserve and we agreed that she would not sell the car for anything less.
but in the excitement of the live auction, she let the car go for less than the reserve not knowing I was the high bidder.
So I bought the car and now I'm selling it having driven it probably 20-30 miles since.
So this car remained in 1 family from June 1973 to Nov 2022, that's why the history is so well known and documented.
There's also a picture of a cardboard box full of receipts dating back into the 70s and of course, all the work the widow did starting 2012.
The original black seats are also included (see picture), they are in very good condition but one has a small 2-3 inch seam split fyi.
Car starts and runs great, no issues, transmission shifts smoothly, clutch operates smoothly without any grabbing, no smoke when running, carbs are sync'd, points/rotor all done in last year, etc.
.
I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere in California.
If the widow has simply left the interior black and redid it in black, this car would be priced many 1000s higher.
This 240z has been refinished to a very high driver-level car.
Its not perfect but could be made nearly so.
Some of the rubber could use a refreshing, dents on the chrome bumpers removed and re-chromed to be perfect, the emblems on both sides are original and pittedsmall stuff that could be accomplished over time at a more or less minimal cost.
I've never seen a 240z with spoilers, suspension, and exhaust originally from the dealer, how rare is that, but this one has the goods to document it.
If you want a car you can reliably drive today and be proud of at a weekend car & coffee type show, this is it.
And an original 40k miles, essentially 1-ower car to boot.
